The following is a quick reference to setting up Mirc 6.2 and Mirc 6.21
Disclaimer......
Please remember I am not the person who wrote Mirc nor do I have anything to do with
the SwiftIrc network, I do not give backup support so dont ask.
This is to try and help new users set up the basics to connect to the SwiftIrc network.
If you fiddle or play around with any of the setting I will not repeat will "NOT" help or
or answer any questions, you are on your own.
Mirc stands for Microsoft Internet Relay Chat. It has been around almost as long as the
"internet" has, so dont tell me "it dont work" millions and yes I meen millions of ppl use it
everyday. There are alot of different "networks" on IRC and you need to connect to the
correct one. We use the SwiftIrc network, if you connect to Undernet or Dalnet or any
other networks you will not see out chat room. Rooms are only on 1 specfic "network".
If you have a "firewall" on your system, it must be configured to allow Mirc 6.21 to
access the Internet, again I will give no support in doing this, I dont know what you
have running on your systems.
Downloading......
You need to first download the Mirc program you can get it from "
www.mirc.com/get.html"
Installing......
Warning before you install it onto your system, Mirc can be used to send and recieve files,
so be aware, never accept any DCC from anyone you dont know or trust completely.
Install Mirc 6.21 onto your system, once installed launch Mirc 6.21.
Do not enter any information at this time, just close any popup boxes so you have just the
Mirc 6.21 workspace with the "Status box" showing.
Move the "Status box" to the lower right of the screen, re-size it to about 5 cm high and
15 cm wide.Once you have the "Status box" in the right place, go to the to the top left corner,
left click the icon, goto "position" and click "save" or "remember" whichever your version has.
You will need to see the "Status box" for messages, you can rearrange the windows to suit
yourself later.
These steps will setup Mirc so you manually "connect" and manually "choose" which chat rooms
you wish to join.
The first thing to set up is "your details",
Step (1)
Near the top left you will find the "Options" icon, click it, then click "Connect" in the list.
You will see 4 places to type information, I would suggest you do something like this.
"Full Name:" Micky - Can be your RS name or another, If its crude you will be banned.
"Email Address:"
someone@somewhere.com - Do not use your real email as anyone can see it.
"Nickname:" Micky- Must be "Your" RS name or you will not be given access to our chat.
"Alternative:" Mickyg_123 - This is incase you can not connect using your "Nickname"
Next click "Ok"
Step (2)
Click the "Options" icon, click the "+" next to "Connect" it will expand the list.
Beneath "Connect" you will see "Options" click it, you will see a Column of "Boxes" that can be
ticked or unticked. Tick "Move to top of list on connect", Tick "Check for timed out connection",
Untick all the rest.
Next click "Ok"
Step(3)
Click the "Options" icon, bneath "Connect" you will see "Identd" click it, you will see boxes to
tick and places to type information, Starting from the top, Tick the "Enable Identd Server" box,
next in "User ID:" type "Test", next in "System:" type "UNIX", next in "Port:" type "113"
Tick the "Show Identd requests" box, next tick the "Enable only when connecting" box,
Untick any other boxes.
Step(4)
To the right of the "Options" icon is the "Favorites" icon, click it
You will see 2 boxes at the bottom, Untick both, then delete all rooms in the list, you can add
more as you need.
Once you have removed all "Rooms", click "Add", next in "channel" enter #Nutz-Lobbyand click ok.
That should be enough to get Mirc going, double check to make sure you followed all the steps.
Make sure you have done all of the above before you try and connect.
Be aware, once you are connected to SwiftIrc, you will have to "register" your RS name there.
The reason for this is so that noone else can connect using your RS name and cause trouble.
NUTZ will not "voice" nor will we allow anyone even a member to remain in our chat room unless
they are registered and identified on IRC. The basics on how to do this will be explained later.
Connecting......
To connect type /server phoenix.il.us.swiftirc.net 6667 in the "Status" box and press enter
If that does not connect try typing /server manticore.uk.eu.SwiftIRC.net 6667 and press enter
Once you have connected to the "Swiftirc" network you will need to type /join #nutz
that is our team chat room, once there you will be asked in a private message who you are
and if you need help, you then explain you are a team member and wish to access the chat.
You will then have it explained to you what you must do as far as proving you are a team member.
There are main people who can add you to the team chat room list, Mickyg_123, Doom1973, Mistery_f
You will be helped ( as much as possible ) in registering you name on IRC and in joining the chat.
Once you have "voice" you will follow the chat rules or you will be removed.
There will be no arguing, flaming, abuse, accusing, swearing or begging for world changes.
Or worlds are never posted in the chat and noone is to ever mention the current world.
If you have other questions you can ask them in the chat room.
